Search and Rescue

It’s almost here!  I’m so excited I can hardly stand it!  Summertime!  Warm weather! Sunshine and sunscreen!  Flip flops, tank tops, short shorts and bikinis…….ert……wait a second.  I’m ready for the warm weather and the flip flops but I’m not so sure about the short shorts and bikini!  You know the feeling….your legs have been hiding since October and all of a sudden you slide on a pair of shorts, check yourself out in the mirror and YIKES….time for a walk, up a giant hill….maybe better make that a run!

I’m happy to report that I am within 4 pounds of my pre-prego weight….though with that said, things still look a little different.  Come on you mamas out there, you know what I’m talking about!  Right!?!  Well, the search and rescue mission has begun….I’m searching for and hoping to rescue my abs and butt!  Who’s with me?  Well, then check out this delicious smoothie recipe that is a great way to start your day, or a perfect mid morning snack, or how about this smoothie at 3:32 in the afternoon when you can literally hear the refrigerator calling your name!

Spinach Berry Smoothie

  • 1 cup Milk (Almond Milk, Soy Milk, Whole Milk, Skim Milk…you know Milk)
  • 1/2 cup Baby Spinach
  • 1/2 cup Frozen Berries
  • 1/2 tsp. Vanilla Extract

Yes, I’m telling you to put spinach in your smoothie.  Calm down, don’t get scared and, if your kids are scared of green things, don’t tell them!  This is such a great way to get a seriously healthy dose of calcium, iron and folic acid.  If you don’t like spinach, I DARE you to try this!!!

Wash and dry the spinach.  I chose frozen blueberries and strawberries for today’s smoothie.

Simply combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.  The options are limitless with smoothies, hence the addition of spinach!  Get creative and toss in all the healthy stuff you can think of and fit into the blender!!!  A tablespoon of wheat germ or flax seeds are great!  Pineapple and mango add a fresh burst of flavor.  A splash of orange juice can also boost the taste and health benefits.

My daughter absolutely loves this!

Cheers to you warm weather, Cheers to short shorts and happy healthy hearts!

  1. Yummy! I agree, spinach hides beautifully in things like that.
Congrats on almost reaching pre-pregnancy weight!!!! As a mom of 4, I have found that each of my precious bundles of joy has ruined a different part of my body. And if that wasn’t enough, nursing each of them a year has allowed that particular “region” to migrate to the east and west, causing me to work each morning to get them to return to center stage. Now that I think about it, they may have migrated with the intent of never returning…..maybe to the point of extinction?! Hee hee :)

  2. I make these all the time for my daughter as well! I put a bit of banana in too, Your photos are so sweet. What a cutie!
