Mercado de San Miguel

I recently mentioned that I just returned from a fabulous trip to Spain.  My next few posts will cover some of the incredible foods we explored while there.  If you like to try new foods and cook, then Spain needs to be at the top of your travel list!  You will not be disappointed!  First up is Mercado de San Miguel.

The San Miguel Market was constructed in 1915 and is one of very few iron buildings preserved in Madrid.  The market sits in close proximity to Plaza Mayor.  The fascinating thing about this market is that you can opt to purchase goodies to take with you or eat at the market….with a glass of wine, of course.  My favorite thing about this market is that it is not a tourist trap,. and you are among the locals crowding in for elbow room to eat paella.

Ham is serious business in Spain!  Come hungry!

Paella is also a must have in Spain.  Just look at the size of that pan!

Fresh fruit defying gravity!  I love it!

Stop here and have some tapas.  Then head outside to wander through the streets for more tapas!

I’m ready to go back!!!
