This is when the fun starts! It’s an exciting time for your little one and for you! Your baby will love the new found freedom of being able to feed himself/herself. And, if you are at all like me, you will love the new found freedom of being able to actually eat your own meal at the same time! What joy!
I highly recommend sticking with whole foods for your baby’s first finger foods. For example, try pieces of steamed carrots rather than puff cereal. Here are some great options for first finger foods:
peeled and chopped – pears, peaches, banana, strawberries, plum, apricot, steamed apple….this list goes on and on. If your little one is having a hard time grabbing a hold of slippery fruit sprinkle on some wheat germ to make it easier to grip.
In the veggie department go for steamed or roasted vegetables. Small babies are not quite ready to take a bite out of a raw carrot nor is their little system ready to digest that carrot! Sweet potatoes, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, peas….again this list goes on and on.
Next up is the protein team – let your child eat cooked and chopped beans, tofu, fish, poultry and meat.
